Krystexxa Treatment

At our Palm Beach infusion center, we offer Krystexxa (pegloticase) therapy for patients with chronic gout that has not responded to conventional treatments. Our goal is to provide expert, compassionate care in a comfortable, patient-focused setting.

What Is Krystexxa?

Krystexxa is a prescription biologic therapy used to lower uric acid levels in people with severe, treatment-refractory gout. It is designed for adults whose gout symptoms have not responded adequately to standard gout medications.
Krystexxa works by breaking down uric acid in the bloodstream, converting it into a form that can be more easily eliminated by the body. This can help reduce painful gout flares and tophi (crystal deposits) over time.

How Krystexxa Treatment Works

Administration

We deliver Krystexxa as an intravenous infusion under close monitoring by our specialized infusion nurses.

Duration & Frequency

Infusions are typically scheduled every two to four weeks (based on clinical protocols and patient response).

Monitoring & Safety Measures

Before, during, and after the infusion, your vitals and potential adverse reactions will be carefully observed. Our team is trained to manage infusion reactions promptly.

Supportive Care

We may provide premedications (like antihistamines, corticosteroids) to reduce the risk of reactions, and post-infusion observation time to ensure patient safety.

Who Is a Candidate for Krystexxa?

Krystexxa Treatment Patient Guide & Answers

After your Krystexxa infusion, you may experience mild fatigue or tenderness at the IV site, which typically resolves within a few hours. Most patients can resume normal daily activities the same day. Our care team monitors you briefly after treatment to ensure you’re feeling well before discharge.
Over time, as uric acid levels drop, you may notice less joint pain, swelling, and fewer gout flares.

Many patients begin noticing improvements in pain, stiffness, and mobility within 4–6 weeks of starting therapy.
However, the exact timing can vary depending on your gout severity and how your body responds to treatment.
Regular follow-up blood tests will help your physician track uric acid levels and assess progress.

Krystexxa is generally well tolerated, but some patients may experience:

Mild infusion reactions (e.g., warmth, itching, or rash)

Temporary fatigue or nausea after treatment

Occasional gout flares as uric acid levels shift early in therapy

Our infusion staff monitors you closely throughout treatment and may provide premedications (like antihistamines or corticosteroids) to reduce side effects.
If you ever feel unwell during the infusion, we’re equipped to respond immediately.

Most major insurance plans, including Medicare and private providers, cover Krystexxa for patients who meet clinical criteria (chronic gout unresponsive to standard therapy).
